Tandem Property Management Sucks

Since a search of the internet didn't turn up the title of this entry in a search-terms query - I thought I'd be the first to add it.

Tandem Property Management out of Portland Oregon  is dishonest. 

I lived there a few years ago, but the shenanigans that resulted in me eventually suing them in court (and winning) were just outrageous!

First, their move-out-fees are ridiculous and are a form of gouging.  You sign a checklist and agree to the fees before you move in that they will charge you for when you move out for various discrepancies.  Example?  Dust on the chandelier - $15.  Dust on the counter-tops $30 or something like that.   Great - fine - we'll dust the chandeliers and such.  But - NO! They lie about it and then charge you a huge fine!  We got gouged about $700 in addition to our deposit which they wanted to keep because we lived there for several years and needed to replace the carpet - but wouldn't let us clean the carpet to re-claim our deposit.  The $700 was for stuff like spilled-soda on the counter (I had photographs of the counter - it was spotless) and for dust on the chandelier and such.


They also illegally entered our home and snapped photographs of our rooms without the advanced 24 hour notice, while allegedly there for a dryer-repair that we didn't authorize either. 

We did win in court but only because I had several sworn affidavits and photographs and could show they engaged in mail fraud by forging signatures and dates and lying about when they did their inspections - it was pretty bad. 

Nice place to live.  Not so nice to move out of.  That and it's worse than living in a home-owners-association in terms of what control they want over your life and property.
