Hundreds injured in Cairo clashes

Simmering anger in Cairo has spilled over onto the streets of the Egyptian capital. The authorities say more than a thousand people have been hurt in two days of protests in and around Tahrir Square.

Riot police fired in the air and used tear gas to disperse hundreds of youths who pelted them with rocks and firebombs.
Egypt's Health Ministry says more than a thousand people were hurt, including 40 police officers.
