And the counseling appointments begin riiiiiiiight...NOW!

Low Tech.....well.....you get the picture.....

ITS A JOYSTICK (for your keypad) - No I don't know where to get one....

Whoso should offend one of these little ones....

You started it!

Nice to see the Lamestream Media get whatt they got coming to them.  Palin isn't involving them at all in her tour telling them where they are going and they are chasing her like paparazzi and one of them got upset saying what she's doing is dangerous and one of her staffers reported "you're the ones following us." Niiiiiiiice.   I wonder what these reporters were like in sports or games in high school.  I imagine they are exactly the types of kids and families that I used to and still do hate.  Who treat people like trash and then whine when the tables get turned and complain how its not faiiiiiirrrrrrrr.  http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20067591-503544.html

We really don't need the lamestream media as much anymore with things like facebook - I wonder when the media is going to realize they aren't that big a deal and don't matter as much anymore?

Here's her facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/sarahpalin

I can say Sarah Palin is someone I'd be willing to take orders from leading our fine fine military, I'd follow her to battle and I believe God's blessed her and sent her to be a voice of reason rationale in a time when our nation and the media is losing it.

I'd say, I think she's four times the man most of those guys in the media who trash talk her will never be and I don't know what the hell the women are who hate her.

That'll Teach Ya!

Woman chops rapist's "member" off while he attempts to rape her and takes it to the police as "evidence"! http://www.myfoxny.com/dpp/news/international/bangladeshi-woman-takes-attackers-penis-to-police-20110531-ncx

I wonder what the defense plea will be.   Was just minding my own business when she chopped my willy off?  Just because she has my willy doesn't mean I was raping her? That could be anybody else who's missing their willy's?

Anyways......I don't know what it is about the male member, unlike women who may have reasons to hate or at least not be all that fond of their um......female genders.....for some reason, in terms of hazardous operations and things that are dangerous, men don't think so much about things like "that could have gotten you killed" or "you could have gone to jail" but instead its more like "Oh my gosh, you could have lost your package!" or "what if you got your weiner caught in that thing?!"   For example, this video:

Every single guy I know who watched it, including me, was all "dude, what if he got his thing caught in the equipment????

Anyways, I don't think he'll be doing this again, women in Bangladesh have been empowered, hopefully she doesn't become a target of riff-raff who need to prove she's not so tough, and its horrible that these things happen to begin with - but hopefully this makes at least a few guys think twice......(and if he goes to prison? If he doesn't already get beaten, he's going to be an object of ridicule who can only serve ONE purpose and it won't be raping)

Baby Bassinet Business?

I am a religious man - a religious man with some rough edges - but a religious man nonetheless.  Tonight as I was praying about life in general, a thought came to me.  I've been working on a couple projects, one of which is the baby bassinet which you've seen me post pictures of, I've got the top part of it stained, and am about finished with it - though it's at home and I'm out here so it will have to wait a week.  At any rate, it was going to be my first for me, but I think I'm going to just sell it, build another for a friend, and then start building my own, and then start building them period as I can now do them in an evening or two now.

The other thing I was working on was custom woodcrafted ant farms like the one I posted a while back.  I'm thinking that baby bassinets will have a larger more positive audience than ant farms after praying on the matter this evening.

The wife wants a headboard built which I can very easily do now - she wants cubbyholes put into it for baby stuff - not sure how much headboards cost, but when you can custom build them the way you want?  Heck yeah!  That and we have a sleep number bed (I used to be their senior home delivery technician and have put in a few thousand of them, taken them apart, put them together, they *really* are what they say they are) so lets put a custom crafted headboard up while we're at it.

Anyways, the materials to build the bassinet cost about $60, I could sell them for ~$100 I think as it is a novel yet high end quality item, just to get things going.  Maybe then even custom carve baby names into a little plaque to hang at the head of it all as well.....anyways, I think I've found what I want to do.  If only I was retired or something and could just putter away.....ah, never enough time in this life.

On VA CA SHUN!

I can't believe it.  I'm on vacation.  Whoohoo! (?).   I'm on call 24/7.  Fortunately I have the loyalty of my staff and they handle a lot for me, though currently I think I'm about to get in a war with senior management over some hostile communications sent my way by senior management.  Not to sound all "toughy" but - I stopped taking orders over a decade ago y'all, none of these guys ain't got the rank, nor the stature to intimidate me and I sure as f*** don't respect people when they pull unprofessional crap like they are pulling.  They're talking to a sailor who's walked into the line of fire to save lives and been in harm's way in the name of duty more than a few times - don't think anyone's going to send me a strongly worded and immature email and intimidate me or get me to back down.  I was willing to die for what's right.  I'm sure as hell willing to lose my job over it because working while compromising my morals - sacrificing my values for a dollar?  Aint gonna happen.  My kids deserve better.  I've walked off the job / been fired when I confessed to something I did wrong because I wasn't going to take money  for dishonesty just to keep my job.  I was willing to pay the price so I could have a clean conscience.  All the money in the world isn't worth a clean conscience.  I'm sure as hell not going to back down now.  But for now, I'm on vacation.

We'll see what happens when I get back.  One thing I've learned, always stay on the right side of things by following your values.  Know what they are.  Think about what you'll do and make moral decisions before you're faced with them so when the time comes you don't hesitate - you know what to do.  Think about what your job's worth.  What your life's worth.  What your values are worth.  What you're working for.  What you want.  What you value - BEFORE you go into the field of conflict.

I have time to think about it for now as I await the fallout of my latest actions (holding senior management accountable with some administrative tools) when I return home in a little over a week.  For now?  I'm at a resort in beautiful central Oregon - got a huge place I'm staying in - some time - and lots of blessings....I think I'll enjoy myself and prep some more for my doctoral studies in eventuality and work on school some more.

In the meantime, I'm gonna go relax a bit.

Racist Democrats Oppose Black Supreme Court Justice Ruling.....

So, the Democrats claim that the Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas (who just happens to be black) needs to recuse himself (that's fancy judge-talk for "excuse" or "remove") from the case on Obamacare because his wife received money from a group she works for that supports the repeal of Obamacare http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/05/30/groups-target-thomas-wife-seek-ouster-high-court-rulings/.

If Thomas is recused, then the case will be heard in a 4/4 split court leaving appelate rulings intact and the supreme court (which is currently conservative) will not get to hear it again.

Anyways, I think all this is a racist attack on Thomas because he's black.  They don't want a black man with a white wife who went to college voting on this stuff.  That is the ONLY thing this is all about.  Nothing else.  Just a buncha racists (See?  I can do it too!).

ISPOR and the JSPH

For more than a decade and a half, our team from the Jefferson School of Population Health (and its predecessor department and office) has been very well represented at the annual meeting of the International Association of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research or ISPOR!!! ISPOR is the global leader in research on what works and what doesn't and all of the economic implications for pharmaceutical agents world wide. The annual meeting now draws more than 2,300 persons from all over the globe and it spans nearly a week, counting the pre-courses and related activities. Today, I think ISPOR is more important than ever as health reform and Comparative Effectiveness Research have pushed this agenda to the front page. The cost of pharma agents continues to rise, particularly in the oncology arena. We cannot continue to spend money on products without better proof of their comparative effectiveness and possible role in evidence based care moving forward. ISPOR uniquely fills this research void. This year, one of our fellows, Dr. Kellie Dudash, won acclaim for her podium presentation and came away with the prize for best new investigator---a real coup for her, and for our entire research team too. I am particularly proud of Kellie, Dr. Joe Couto and of course, Neil Goldfarb, our long time Associate Dean for Research. This is further confirmation for me that the JSPH is a national leader in interpreting the outcomes of the ACA and leads the way from an academic perspective in doing research in this arena. Our research supports the notion, covered in this blog many times, that the future means -- NO OUTCOME, NO INCOME!! DAVID NASH

Here's a great post by Emily on the Disease Proof blog, about the "lifestyle" of a nutritarian vs the lifestyle of disease.

Evening pics.....

I'm going on vacation for a week, and my laptop will be in the shop - so I don't know that I will get a chance to blog while I am on the road.  In the meantime, there are 2,090 posts I've posted, and links to other blogs, plus hundreds of links, if you wish, click and read and enjoy.  Otherwise, I plan to resume my normal blogging schedule and pace when I return.  So for now.....here's some pics....(Click to embiggen them!)

The real reason that we can’t have the Ten Commandments in a courthouse: You cannot post “Thou shalt not steal,” “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” and “Thou shalt not lie” in a building full of lawyers, judges, and politicians. It creates a hostile work environment. ~George Carlin

Epilepsy (Seizure Disorders) Causes and Prevention

Epilepsy is a general term for the tendency to crises. Epilepsy is usually diagnosed only after a person has more than one seizure.

If identified, the causes of epilepsy is usually some form of brain damage. For most people, but the causes of epilepsy are not known.
Seizures and Epilepsy
A crisis occurs when to escape an epidemic of electrical impulses in the brain, the limits of normal. They spread to adjacent areas and create a storm of uncontrolled electrical activity. The electrical impulses, the muscles can be transmitted, leading to convulsions or cramps.
The causes of epilepsy

There are about 180,000 new cases of epilepsy each year. About 30% occur in children. Children and the elderly are most often affected.

There is an obvious cause of epilepsy in only a minority of cases. In general, the known causes of seizure of certain brain injuries. Some of the major causes of epilepsy are:
  • low oxygen levels during birth
  • Head injuries caused during birth or by accident in adolescence or adulthood
  • Brain Tumors
  • Genetic conditions that cause brain trauma, such as tuberous sclerosis
  • Infections such as meningitis or encephalitis
  • Stroke or any other type of brain damage
  • Abnormal levels of substances like sugar or blood sodium

In up to 70% of all cases of epilepsy in adults and children, no cause ever found.

Although the causes of epilepsy are generally not known, certain factors are known to cause seizures in people with epilepsy. Avoidance of these triggers, you can prevent seizures and a better life with epilepsy
  • Missing doses of drugs
  • Excessive alcohol consumption
  • Cocaine or other drugs like ecstasy
  • Lack of sleep
Other drugs that interfere with seizure medicines

For about one in two women with epilepsy, seizures tend to occur more at the time of menstruation. Change or addition of certain medications help before menstruation.

Epilepsy - prevention
In someone with epilepsy, certain triggers may cause a crisis. Identify and, for certain behaviors, environments, or physical and emotional symptoms that can be observed before the attacks. It is not unusual to be angry or happy, for example, several hours before a big attack, and just before the attack.

In addition, the person became aware of a warning "aura" - perhaps a smell or taste: This warning may allow you to grow in time to avoid falling. In cases where the aura is an odor that some people are able to fight against seizures by sniffing a strong odor, like garlic or pink. When the first signs include depression, irritability and headaches, an additional dose of medication (with doctor's approval) may prevent an attack. In the case of an adjustment Jackson, compression of the muscles strong around these spasms can sometimes stop these attacks.
Take precautions if your seizures are not fully controlled. Avoid alcohol or limit, in accordance with provincial requirements for a seizure-free period before driving and to educate family members on measures to minimize injury if you have a seizure. Tell them to protect you against falls, and keep you rolling on your side when you lose consciousness.

R, Y, U, 2, 4, 0........TEXTING 1,3, CAN O HEA ME?

I text on my phone a LOT.  I don't have an iPhone. I don't have an us phone.  I don't have a we phone either.  Or a you phone.  At any rate, its interesting as I text as much as I do that I actually "spell" words in my head as I speak, or when I talk to myself I spell the words as I'm saying them.

So, that's fine and all.  Now my Sony Vaio needs repair.  (BTW - Sony Vaios?  Great Laptops, best value in my opinion - but Sony tried to rip me off $100 for their service under warranty I paid for and I had to prepare to sue them and notify them I was suing them in small claims and had followed due diligence and was suing them for breach of contract - they finally relented and filled the contract and rescinded the $100 charge.  I hope it doesn't happen again this time.)  The U, R, Y, 2, 4, and 0 key aren't working.

So now, if I do any work on my laptop, I have to avoid words with those letters in them if I'm typing.  It requires an extensive cut-and-paste creativity to get things done on my laptop at times, and even my blog has suffered from the lack of these letters if I do something on my laptop.

So anyways, in an interesting note, I noticed this morning, after struggling with my laptop while waiting to mail it (I'm on vacation celebrating 8 years of marriage to the lovely Jennifer beginning monday, my Brothers ins laws will be at my home with my guns and keeping an eye on the place in my stead - I just named my shotgun Salli but I'm thinking of changing it to Molly - we'll see)......ANYWAYS, I noticed that this morning while talking to Jen, I was avoiding saying words with....R, Y, U and avoiding the numbers 2, 4 and 0 (you can't even spell Zero without an R - you have to cut and paste and you can't spell cut and paste without a U).

Just a thought for the day....

A very interesting column. COMPLETELY NEUTRAL

Charley Reese's final column for the Orlando Sentinel....
He has been a journalist for 49 years.
He is retiring and this is HIS LAST COLUMN.

Be sure to read the Tax List at the end.

This is about as clear and easy to understand as it can be. The article below is completely neutral, neither anti-republican or democrat.  Charlie Reese, a retired reporter for the Orlando Sentinel, has hit the nail directly on the head, defining clearly who it is that in the final analysis must assume responsibility for the judgments made that impact each one of us every day.  It's a short but good read and worth the time.  Worth remembering!

545 vs. 300,000,000 People
        -By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The President does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall.  No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating  deficits. The President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? John Boehner. He is the leader of the majority party. He and fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want.  If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal  government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.

If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it's because they want them in  Iraq and Afghanistan ...

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they  alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees...

We should vote all of  them out of office and clean up their mess!

What you do with this article now that you have read it.... is up to you.

I pay a public transportation tax...it is a tax for the usage of the subway system....Even if you don't use the subway, you still have to pay it if you own a business in NYC....$105/yr

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What in the heck happened?  Can you spell 'politicians?'

did I do thaaaaaaat?

A Stark Comparison.....

George W. Bush speech after capture of Saddam: "The success of yesterday's mission is a tribute to our men and women now serving in Iraq .  The operation was based on the superb work of intelligence analysts who found the dictator's footprints in a vast country.  The operation was carried out with skill and precision by a brave fighting forceOur servicemen and women and our coalition allies have faced many dangers in the hunt for members of the fallen regime, and in their effort to bring hope and freedom to the Iraqi people.  Their work continues, and so do the risks.  Today, on behalf of the nation, I thank the members of our Armed Forces and I congratulate 'em."

Barack Obama speech after killing of bin Laden:
"And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda,   even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network.  Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden.  It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground.

I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan .  And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice.  Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad , Pakistan ."

baboom!

Can we just fast forward?

Okay, so supposedly Lockheed suffered a cyber "hack attack" - unspecified.  But this is going to be used to make the case that the internet needs to be regulated. By Obama.  Personally.  So he can download the boobie-scans from TSA into his personal files.....and any pictures you might have of your wife floating around the net....or husband.....
http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/05/28/lockheed-network-suffers-security-breach/

So....hide your kids...hide your wife....hide your husbands CUZ WE RAPIN EVERYBODY UP IN HERE!

Anyways, can we just fast forward?  Everyone just get the damn chip in our hands, whip out the Bamster's (Obama's) birth certificate which is probably #666 or something like that, watch a Lady Gaga concert where she creates life and then do jumping jacks with big-brother on the telescreen (or antoine dodson, might be more fun that doing them with big brother since we're into compulsory mandatory fitness) and get it over with?  Please?  Do we HAVE to have all the drama? (I'm sure Lady Gaga would love the drama....so here's some for you.....let us all worship the beast - and Big Brother....."Big!...big!....big!....big!...big!" )  Thank you.  NOW we can all be raptured (after you watch the video of Lady Gaga - provided for your entertainment with some advertizing for her pocketbook!)

A woman's best friend....

A real man is a woman's best friend. He will never stand her up and never let her down.

He will reassure her when she feels insecure and comfort her after a bad day.

He will inspire her to do things she never thought she could do; to live without fear and forget regret. He will enable her to express her deepest emotions and give in to her most intimate desires.

He will make sure she always feels as though she's the most beautiful woman in the room and will enable her to be the most confident, sexy, seductive, and invincible.

No wait... sorry... I'm thinking of alcohol.....its alcohol that does all that.  Never mind.  Sorry.

Inspirational Poems: In Flanders Fields

I bought a Poppy today from a VFW vet from Viet Nam today.

I gave it to one of my staff who's son is in Afghanistan and I told her the story of the poppies and what they represent.

For Memorial Day, here is In Flanders Fields.

Cookies.....

Cookies

This actually did happen to a real person, and the real person was me. I had gone to catch a train. This was April 1976, in Cambridge, U.K. I was a bit early for the train. I'd gotten the time of the train wrong.

I went to get myself a newspaper to do the crossword, and a cup of coffee and a packet of cookies. I went and sat at a table.

I want you to picture the scene. It's very important that you get this very clear in your mind.

Here's the table, newspaper, cup of coffee, packet of cookies. There's a guy sitting opposite me, perfectly ordinary-looking guy wearing a business suit, carrying a briefcase.

It didn't look like he was going to do anything weird. What he did was this: he suddenly leaned across, picked up the packet of cookies, tore it open, took one out, and ate it.

Now this, I have to say, is the sort of thing the British are very bad at dealing with. There's nothing in our background, upbringing, or education that teaches you how to deal with someone who in broad daylight has just stolen your cookies.

You know what would happen if this had been South Central Los Angeles. There would have very quickly been gunfire, helicopters coming in, CNN, you know. . . But in the end, I did what any red-blooded Englishman would do: I ignored it. And I stared at the newspaper, took a sip of coffee, tried to do a clue in the newspaper, couldn't do anything, and thought, what am I going to do?

In the end I thought, nothing for it, I'll just have to go for it, and I tried very hard not to notice the fact that the packet was already mysteriously opened. I took out a cookie for myself. I thought, that settled him. But it hadn't because a moment or two later he did it again. He took another cookie.

Having not mentioned it the first time, it was somehow even harder to raise the subject the second time around. "Excuse me, I couldn't help but notice . . ." I mean, it doesn't really work.

We went through the whole packet like this. When I say the whole packet, I mean there were only about eight cookies, but it felt like a lifetime. He took one, I took one, he took one, I took one. Finally, when we got to the end, he stood up and walked away.

Well, we exchanged meaningful looks, then he walked away, and I breathed a sigh of relief and sat back. A moment or two later the train was coming in, so I tossed back the rest of my coffee, stood up, picked up the newspaper, and underneath the newspaper were my cookies.

The thing I like particularly about this story is the sensation that somewhere in England there has been wandering around for the last quarter-century a perfectly ordinary guy who's had the same exact story....only he doesn't have the punch line.

WOODWORKING!

Okay, so tonight I traded in the Ryobi router and got the Ryobi router/table combo (A number 1, super sized with a Diet Dr. Pepper.....TO GO....that's TO GO....).

The Baby Bassinett?  Yah, with the table I can do most of the work I've done now in like um, one evening now.

I've got people asking if I'll make projects for them.  Now?  Sure! ABSOLUTELY!  And I can do it in way less time to even higher quality.

But not for free.  A small fee for the time at least.  I gotta buy more tools ya know!  Oh, plus the cost of materials.  I mean, geeze, right now, I've spent nearly $600 or so in just tools.  I'm somewhat loathe to lend them out as well because I am really touchy about my investments.  Left over from an insecure childhood doubtless.

Anyways, with the table, I can do my dove tailing (or mortise and tenon jointing) WAYYYYYYY faster and WAYYYYYY more precise and really just crank it out.  I'm looking forward to it!

Next, I need my welder and glass grinder table.

FISH TANK!(S) (I just like these)
