In Los Alamos, northern New Mexico, a wildfire burns in the hills surrounding the nuclear laboratory where the atomic bomb was first developed.
The blaze, which has already burned more than 20 thousand hectares, continues to spread as it sends up plumes of smoke and rains down ash.
Officials say that radioactive material stored on the lab property is safe.
Al Jazeera's Imran Garda reports from Los Alamos.
