Nebraska Lake Waconda Levee Unstable Manditory Evacuation Of Residents

The community is east of Union near where the Platte River hits the Missouri. Every homeowner was told around 3 p.m. Sunday they would have to leave.

Authorities went door-to-door with the emergency mandatory order given on a recommendation by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers because of concern about the levee being structurally sound. There was no breach, but one could happen soon.

Col. Bob Ruch of the Army Corps of Engineers said a technical team is addressing several large sand boils or leaks on the levee near the man-made lake 25 miles south of Omaha.
